Reading Clinic Information

What
Aquinas College will be offering four opportunities for tutoring for students who need additional assistance in reading and writing skills.

WhereThe Elementary Reading Clinic, Elementary Reading Mini-Clinic, and Secondary Reading Clinics will be held on campus at Aquinas College (a complete map with the exact location – Grace Hauenstein Library – will be mailed with registration confirmation).

When
Opportunity #1 – Elementary Reading Clinic – Help for Struggling Readers, emphasis in this clinic is placed on informal assessment, setting instructional goals, and implementing research-based literacy strategies. Throughout administration and analysis of assessments results, each tutor will develop an individualized and appropriate instructional plan based on a child’s learning needs, strengths, interests, and learning style. Families of students who have reading disabilities or who are 1-2 grade levels behind in the area of reading or writing are encouraged to apply. (grades 1-5) Cost: $100.00
March 15 – April 29 – Clinic is scheduled to meet twice a week [Mondays and/or Wednesdays, anytime between 3:30 to 6:00] for 1.5 hours each, for a total of three hours per week. Specific times will be scheduled with the Aquinas tutor assigned to work with your child. Please indicate on the back of the application the times your child is available.

Opportunity #2 – Elementary Reading Mini-Clinic (grades 1-5) Cost: $50.00
February 25, March 15, 18, 22, 25, 29, April 12, 15, 19, 22, and 26 (students must attend all *11 sessions)
Mon/Thurs. 5:00 – 5:45 [*February 25th is for initial assessment – it cannot be missed]
Cost : $50

Opportunity #3 – Secondary Reading Clinic (grades 6-12) Cost: $50.00March 15, 22, 29, April 12, 19, and 26 (students must attend all 6 sessions)
Mondays 6:45 – 8:30 p.m. Cost: $50

Opportunity #4 – Secondary Reading Clinic Cost: $50.00
March 18, 25, April 1, 15, 22 and 29 (students must attend all 6 sessions)
Thursdays 6:45 – 8:30

The fees cover the cost of supplies and snack

Aquinas College Tutors
Aquinas College tutors consist of teacher candidates (elementary and secondary – various content areas) and certified teachers. All tutors have completed at least one course (and often more) in literacy instruction before beginning the clinic tutoring. Tutors will use individualized lesson plans for each student and provide parents with a personalized report at the end of the tutoring sessions.
